Stringent quality requirements for the treatment of our waste
The wastewater from refinery processes is treated in a three-stage waste water treatment plant to ensure that the purified wastewater meets strict legal requirements. The purified wastewater is discharged into the North Sea via a twelve-kilometre pipeline.

Running a refinery means taking responsibility – for employees, for people, for the landscape of the region and, last but not least, for the sensible use of the raw material oil, which will become scarcer in the future. For this reason, we are an active partner in the relevant associations.
We belong to a total of 25 associations, including Wirtschaftsverband
Fuels und Energie e. V. and the umbrella organisation FuelsEurope, its European counterpart, as well as the district fire service association and the support group of the FH Westküste University of Applied Sciences.

Our certification in accordance with ISO standards 9001, 14001, 45001, 27001 and 50001 shows just how successful we are in this regard.

Under the ISCC sustainability certification system, the refinery also holds ISCC EU certificates for the use of bio-methanol in the MTBE plant and ISCC PLUS certification for the processing of sustainable naphtha into ethylene, propylene, benzene, toluene and xylene.

Since 2010, Heide Refinery has been part of the international Klesch Group, which is headquartered in Geneva. The Klesch Group’s philosophy is that every company must have as much freedom as possible in order to operate successfully in its market.
We process crudes and feedstocks from all over the world. True to the motto ‘All business is local’, we act as a medium-sized company in all other areas to supply northern Germany. In doing so, we align our production with the needs of our local market.
