Heide Refinery –
part of the Klesch Group
In 2010, Heide Refinery became a proud member of the Klesch Group, an independent, global company that has specialised in the safe and efficient operation of refineries. The Klesch Group, founded in 1990 by A. Gary Klesch, pursues a strategy of long-term value creation through targeted investments, operational excellence and the commercial optimisation of industrial assets.
In addition to Heide Refinery, the Klesch Group also operates Kalundborg Refinery in Denmark and Ruhr Oel Refinery in Germany.
Since the refinery was acquired by the Klesch Group, roughly 490 million euros have been invested in order to improve processes and boost efficiency in Heide. What’s more, the number of processed crude oil types has tripled and the product portfolio has been optimised. Thanks to these measures, Heide Refinery is now one of the most reliable refineries in Germany and sets industry standards.

Our sister refinery
in Kalundborg
Located more than 350 kilometres from our refinery, our sister site – the Kalundborg Refinery – has been part of the Klesch Group since 2022 and is the largest refinery in Denmark.
With an annual processing capacity of 5.5 million tonnes of crude oil and other feedstocks, it primarily supplies markets in Scandinavia and North-West Europe. Its main products include propane, butane, petrol, diesel and heating oil. With around 400 employees, it is a significant employer in the region.

in Kalundborg
More than 350 kilometres from the refinery in Kalundborg is our sister refinery, Heide Refinery. The refinery in Northern Germany has been a part of Klesch Group since 2010 and each year processes up to 4 million tonnes of crude oil.
Their production of aviation fuel covers almost all flights from Hamburg airport, and production of fuel oil secures heating for more than 250,000 houses between Flensburg and Hamburg.

Our sister refinery, Ruhr Oel Refinery has been part of the Klesch Group since 2026 and is an integral part of the large refinery and petrochemical complex in the northern Ruhr area of Germany. Ruhr Oel Refinery primarily manufactures transportation and aviation fuels and supplies essential feedstocks to the petrochemical industry in Germany and across Europe.
