Heide Refinery’s customers and partners
Most of our customers and partners come from northern Germany, meaning that 75 per cent of our sales take place regionally and the export share of our products accounts for around 25 per cent. This is due to how the products are supplied and the associated transport costs.
In terms of the manufacture of our products, we also focus on the market requirements of northern Germany and the needs of customers in this region.

Heide Refinery – a refinery with integrated Chemicals division
Our customers include petrol station operators, crude oil traders, independent wholesalers and industrial and chemical processing companies.
By integrating refining and chemicals, we can supply not only traditional fuel customers, but also chemical customers whose products are found in many areas of our daily lives (plastics, detergents, car tyres, etc.).
In addition to olefins (ethylene, propylene), we also produce aromatic compounds (benzene, toluene, xylene) as raw materials for the chemical industry.
We supply our petroleum products directly via pipeline to chemical companies at ChemCoast Park Brunsbüttel, amongst others. Depending on the product, we are also able to make flexible use of other sales channels such as road tankers, tank wagons and barges or other vessels.
Our bitumen products are used in road construction and roofing. On average, 150 tankers of product leave our refinery every day, making us a linchpin of the petrochemical products supply in northern Germany.

More than 70 percent of our sales are based on long-term contracts. For example, we are the main supplier of Jet A-1 to Hamburg Airport and have been supplying jet fuels to the refuelling company at Sylt Airport for many years.
The Brunsbüttel tank farm enables us to transport 59 percent of our production by ship.
33 per cent of deliveries are made by road, with the remaining 8 percent delivered by rail or pipeline. Our innovative strength and commitment to technical excellence make us a reliable partner for our customers and help Heide Refinery play a leading role in the regional economy.
